Eastern Sierra Farm Fresh (ESFF) is responding to the need in the Eastern Sierra for greater access to fresh food. Data indicates that up to 19% of the population are food insecure. The geographic isolation of the Eastern Sierra contributes to limited access to resources and fresh food.

ESFF is dedicated to cultivating a more sustainable, equitable, and resilient food system in the Eastern Sierra by making sure fresh food is available to people in need.

As of November 1st , ESFF has conducted 12 weekly Farm to Table Markets in Bishop, bringing together 6 to 11 food vendors, serving nearly 2000 residents. ESFF has gleaned more than 12,000lbs. of fruits and vegetables from 36 different small farms and backyards, diverting this produce away from landfills to supplement the meals of the food insecure. Our distribution network includes: IMACA, the United Methodist Church Soup Kitchen, Senior Centers and the Bishop Paiute Tribe Elders Center.

In 2025, community volunteers contributed 914 hours supporting gleaning operations and Farm to Table Markets. These in-kind hours represent a meaningful investment in our local food system.

Using recognized volunteer labor valuation standards, this contribution represents $22,850–$34,110 in community-supported labor, reflecting both standardized California budgeting rates and broader economic impact estimates.

That time and care translated directly into nourishment across our region—serving 1,910 community members at Farm to Table Markets and supplementing thousands of meals and food distributions through local partners, including 2,000+ meals at soup kitchens, 2,280+ household distributions with IMACA, 1,000+ meals at senior centers, and 2,000+ meals supporting the Bishop Paiute Tribe.

Together, these efforts reflect the power of community - neighbors showing up for one another to strengthen food access, reduce waste, and build a more resilient local food system for all.
